Insights — Fastener Tooling FAQ

Find answers to common questions about screw and fastener forming tooling, custom specifications and quotation requirements.

About GXP and Our Products

1. What products does GXP supply?

GXP supplies tooling for screw, bolt and nut manufacturing, including carbide heading dies, header punches, recess pin punches, flat thread rolling dies, multi-station former punches, trimming dies, knock-out pins and related machine accessories.

2. Where is GXP based?

Geng Xin Precision Co., Ltd., also known as GXP Co., Ltd., is based in Taiwan and was founded in 2010. We support domestic and international customers with custom fastener forming tooling and specification coordination.

3. Does GXP supply customized tooling?

Yes. We review customer drawings, samples, machine specifications and production requirements to define suitable tooling specifications. Please include the fastener material, critical dimensions and required quantity when submitting an inquiry.

4. Who manufactures JD second punches and recess pin products?

JD handles the design and manufacturing of JD second punches and recess pin products in Taiwan. GXP coordinates sales, specifications and quotations, providing a clear point of contact for customer inquiries.

Carbide Heading Dies and Forming Tools

5. What is the difference between a heading die and a header punch?

A heading die supports and forms the fastener body, while a header punch forms the head and, where applicable, its recess. Both tools must be matched to the fastener design, wire material and machine setup.

6. What information is needed to quote carbide heading dies?

Please provide:

  • Die case outside diameter and overall length.
  • Internal dimensions and carbide insert details, if available.
  • Wire diameter and material.
  • Finished fastener dimensions and head style.
  • Required quantity.
  • Tooling drawings or samples for reference.

Please identify critical tolerances clearly on the drawing.

7. Can GXP review tooling for special fastener shapes?

Yes. GXP welcomes inquiries for customized fastener shapes and forming requirements. Please send the finished fastener drawing together with the tooling drawing or sample, machine specifications and wire material for review.

Header Punches and Recess Pins

8. What are header punches and recess pin punches used for?

Header punches form the screw head and drive recess. Recess pin punches form the specified recess geometry as part of a compatible tooling assembly. Selection depends on the recess design, head dimensions and holder configuration.

9. What should I provide when requesting a header punch or recess pin quotation?

Please provide the recess type and size, screw head dimensions, punch or pin dimensions, holder specifications, fastener material and required quantity. Include the applicable standard or a detailed drawing to help confirm compatibility.

10. How are punch material and coating selected?

Material and coating selection depend on the fastener material, forming load, recess geometry and operating conditions. Share your current tooling specification and any wear or breakage concerns so the proposed options can be reviewed for your application.

Custom Flat Thread Rolling Dies

11. What types of screws can GXP supply thread rolling dies for?

GXP lists thread rolling dies for machine screws, drywall screws, micro screws, wood screws, PT-type screws and customized Taptite extrusion-type applications. Please submit your screw drawing to confirm the required thread and point geometry.

12. What information is required for a flat thread rolling die quotation?

Please provide:

  • Thread rolling machine model or die dimensions.
  • Screw diameter and thread pitch.
  • Thread standard or detailed thread profile.
  • Thread length and overall screw length.
  • Screw head and point style.
  • Blank diameter before rolling.
  • Screw material and required quantity.

Drawings and samples are especially helpful for customized profiles.

13. Can GXP supply dies for customized thread profiles?

Yes. Customized thread rolling die inquiries are welcome. Please provide the finished screw drawing, thread profile, point design, machine specifications and blank dimensions so the requirements can be reviewed.

14. Can I order replacement dies using only the machine model?

The machine model is a useful starting point, but additional dimensions and screw specifications are normally needed. Providing your existing die drawing or sample helps confirm fit and forming requirements.

Trimming Dies and Multi-Station Tooling

15. What are head trimming dies used for?

Head trimming dies remove excess material to produce the specified fastener head outline, such as a hexagonal or square shape. The tooling must match the head dimensions, material and trimming setup.

16. What is needed to review multi-station former tooling?

Please provide the machine model, station arrangement, finished part drawing, wire material and available tooling drawings. Forming sequence details and information about current production concerns help clarify the tooling requirements.

Quotations and International Orders

17. Does GXP serve overseas customers?

Yes. GXP serves customers across Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. Markets include India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Germany, Poland, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and the United States.

18. Can I send samples instead of drawings?

Yes. Samples can support an initial review. Please also provide any available dimensions, material details, machine specifications and critical tolerances. Additional information may be required before the final tooling specification can be confirmed.

19. What are the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Minimum order quantity and lead time depend on the product, specification, material and order quantity. Please send your requirements and preferred delivery date so GXP can confirm the applicable terms in the quotation.

20. How can I request a quotation?

Email your drawings or samples, machine model, fastener material and required quantity to our team. Please indicate whether the inquiry is for new tooling, replacement tooling or a proposed specification change.
